CN3S continues support of BIA records management project

December 20, 2018
TULSA, Okla. – Cherokee Nation 3S, a subsidiary of Cherokee Nation Businesses, recently continued its partnership with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Haskell Indian Nations University through a contract with the Department of Interior agency’s Southern Plains Regional Office.

CN3S was selected by the BIA to manage the Southern Plains regional director's records in Anadarko.

Throughout the project, CN3S’ skilled team of records management experts and certified graduate students from Haskell Indian Nations University preserved inactive permanent records and prepared them for shipping to the American Indian Records Repository. The team examined, identified, organized, inventoried, boxed and shipped important records, including tribal enrollment, per capita payments, land titles and records, probate, real estate, natural resource, and self-determination records, as well as other tribal-related documents.

“This project is a great example of our goals to provide training and high-quality career skills for Cherokee citizens. We hired the best and brightest Native American students from our records management classes at Haskell to execute tasks within this contract,” said Matt Kohen, business development director for CN3S. “As part of the day-to-day working experience, we provide the students with records management training, help them become nationally certified and provide a hands-on experience that will give them a jump in their records management careers.”

The contract is the culmination of years of dedicated support provided by CNB, including similar records management projects at the BIA’s Standing Rock and Western Regional locations.

Since 2012, CN3S and the BIA have partnered with Haskell Indian Nations to serve Native American and Alaska Native students at the university in Lawrence, Kansas. The tribally owned company develops and teaches records and information management courses that train Haskell Indian Nations University students to become federally certified by the Office of Trust Records and the National Archives & Records Administration. Graduate students from the collaborative program serve as indexers and technicians on the Southern Plains contract.

Cherokee Nation 3S provides personalized support services to government and commercial clients. The company has proven expertise in navigating the competitive and tribal 8(a) acquisition environments while supporting industries such as mission, information technology, environmental and medical support.

CN3S is part of the Cherokee Nation Businesses family of companies and is headquartered in Tulsa.
