Coffey serves fourth year on AUVSI board of directors

June 23, 2021

John “JC” Coffey, executive director of unmanned systems (UXS) for Cherokee Federal, will serve his fourth year on the board of directors for the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).

Coffey, a retired Naval aviator and Department of Defense acquisition professional, was recently elected to the executive committee as treasurer after completing his three-year term as an AUVSI board member from 2017 to 2020.

AUVSI and its board are committed to advocating globally for public policy that encourages the advancement and deployment of unmanned technology. They represent the views of the unmanned systems and robotics community to elected officials, regulators, media, industry analysts, and other decision makers, influencers, and opinion leaders.

“It has been an honor to serve on this board representing Cherokee Federal and the unmanned community,” Coffey says. “We appreciate AUVSI’s thought leadership and philosophy of inclusion and diversity on its board of directors.”

Coffey recently lead a discussion with AUVSI, “How Drones Can Help Tribal Nations,” and has co-founded the Federal UXS Tribal Interest Group, which works to increase awareness and participation of tribal entities in the research, development, operations and education of unmanned systems through collaborative workshops.

Working closely together benefits everyone and has saved the government from expending limited resources, while learning about cutting-edge technological innovations,” Coffey says.
