CNSS works with the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure you are counted
Since 1790, the U.S. government has enumerated the population through the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure accurate and fair representation and allocation of federal funds. Despite several challenges during 2020, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the USCB perseveres with its mission with support from Cherokee Nation Systems Solutions (CNSS), a Cherokee Federal company.
CNSS provides support services to accomplish the Census Bureau’s mission. Within the Office of Chief Information Officer’s (OCIO) office is the IT Service Management Office (ITSMO). The mission of ITSMO is to support the IT business functions of the OCIO.
“The main focus that ITSMO requests from CNSS is IT, financial and contract administration support services” said Natalie McCue, CNSS program manager. “Our team provides budget planning, formulation and execution databases and applications, budget status, variation and budget projections, data analysis, acquisition support, contract administration and software asset management support, as well as financial and cost management support”.
Through our work, we are able to help support one of the Census Bureaus’ most important initiatives, the 2020 Census. The data from the decennial count is mandated by the U.S. Constitution and is used to determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives, as well as the distribution of trillions of dollars of federal funds to local communities.
“This work is important because it helps with understanding and accurate representation,” said Phil Falzone, Cherokee Federal senior recruiter. “Since March 2020 Cherokee has hired 12 positions, which provide services spanning Pre and Post Award Senior and Mid Analysts, Decennial Budget Analysts, Capital Planning and Investment Control Analysts, Data Metrics Analysts. I am proud of this work because it serves a higher purpose.”
The partnership between the ITSMO and CNSS to execute the important mission of the Census Bureau took place during a challenging time. The contract started at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. The team quickly made adjustments by teleworking and filling positions and building key client and team relations virtually.
“CNSS is an experienced team that brings technical and business expertise to assist federal clients in achieving their mission, in spite of potential challenges” said Brandon Morgan, CNSS program director. “I am incredibly proud of this team. They continue to excel and support the import work of the Census Bureau.”
